Tuesday, 11 August 2026 is the final day for political parties to upload their candidates for the 2027 governorship and state House of Assembly elections on INEC's portal. Major parties, including the APC, PDP and NDC, have reported completing their uploads before the cut-off.

Osun goes to the polls on Saturday
INEC says it is fully prepared for the Osun State governorship election on Saturday, 15 August 2026, reporting that logistical, technological and operational arrangements are complete and that permanent voter card collection was extended to give more residents a chance to pick up their cards. The commission puts the number of registered voters in the state at about 2.33 million. Campaigning is due to end on 13 August, two days before the vote. Fourteen parties are on the ballot, with the field led by incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke (Accord), Bola Oyebamiji (APC) and Najeem Salaam (ADC).

The 2027 presidential field is now official

Among them, President Bola Tinubu is standing again for the APC with Vice President Kashim Shettima, while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is the ADC's candidate with former minister Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate. Official campaigning for the presidential and National Assembly elections is set to begin on 19 August 2026 and to run until 15 January 2027, a day before those polls on 16 January 2027.
